Household and mental load

Agree on what clean means before the next argument

Clean enough is subjective until both partners describe the result. HerWay gives the Creator a way to propose the standard and the Doer a real way to counter or decline it.

Product boundary

A Creator can propose. A Doer can accept, counter, or decline. No agreement means no active commitment.

Recognize the pattern

The same chore name can hide two different expectations

Kitchen reset might mean loading the dishwasher to one partner. To the other, it includes wiping counters, clearing the sink, and sweeping the floor.

When the standard appears only after the task is done, feedback can feel like moving the goalposts. A definition of done makes the expectation reviewable before anyone agrees.

Where it breaks down

Why cleaning expectations turn into conflict

The disagreement is often in the missing details rather than the desire to contribute.

01

The finish line is hidden

A broad label such as clean the bathroom leaves several decisions unstated.

02

Feedback arrives afterward

Corrections after completion can sound like criticism even when the standard was never shared.

03

Frequency is assumed

Partners can agree that a space should be clean while disagreeing about when it needs attention.

How HerWay works here

The proposal stays separate from the agreement

The Creator starts the request. The Doer's response decides whether that request moves forward, changes, or stops.

1

Creator proposes

A request, not an active rule

Reset the kitchen by 9 PM: clear the sink, wipe the counters, and sweep visible crumbs.
2

Doer reviews

Three meaningful choices

Doer choicesAcceptCounterDecline
3

Counter example

The Doer changes proposed terms

I can do the sink and counters nightly, but sweep on alternate nights.

Optional explanation: A full nightly reset is not realistic after my late shifts.

Mutually agreed

Only matching final terms become active

Sink and counters nightly; sweep Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

VerificationPhoto Proof
The Creator reviews a counter. This page does not invent later product states. The commitment shown above represents terms both partners have accepted.

Example commitments

Specific enough to review before accepting

These are examples, not assignments. Every real proposal still needs the Doer's response and matching final terms.

Kitchen resetPhoto Proof

Clear the sink and wipe counters by 9 PM.

BathroomPhoto Proof

Clean the sink, mirror, toilet, and floor before Saturday noon.

Living roomHonor

Return shared items to their places before bedtime.

Laundry is complete when clothes are folded and put away.

Optional consequences stay optional

A clearer standard often matters more than a consequence. If both partners choose to add a financial consequence, it should be small, explicit, and part of the terms the Doer can counter or decline.

Optional + explicit + mutually agreed

HerWay can help when

  • Both partners voluntarily want a clearer commitment.
  • A request keeps becoming vague, forgotten, or repeatedly discussed.
  • The Doer needs a real chance to accept, counter, or decline the proposed terms.

HerWay is not for

  • Forcing a partner to accept an obligation they do not want.
  • Monitoring location, devices, or private behavior.
  • Replacing therapy, medical care, crisis support, or a safety plan.

FAQ

Practical questions before you start

Who decides the correct cleaning standard?

HerWay does not choose a correct standard. The Creator proposes specific terms, the Doer can accept, counter, or decline, and only the shared final terms become active.

Is Photo Proof required for cleaning tasks?

No. The Creator can choose Honor or Photo Proof. A photo may suit a visible room reset, while Honor may be more appropriate for simple or private tasks.

What should a definition of done include?

Name the visible result, any important steps, and the time it should be finished. Keep the scope proportionate and easy for both partners to understand before acceptance.

Do we have to add money to a commitment?

No. A financial consequence is optional. If a couple includes one, it must be explicit and accepted by both partners as part of the final terms. HerWay does not require money for an agreement.

Can we switch the Creator and Doer roles?

There is no instant role switch while a partnership is active. To reverse roles, partners disconnect, existing tasks are paused, select or change roles, and reconnect under the new setup.

Write the finish line before the chore begins

Propose a concrete standard and let your partner negotiate the scope before agreeing.
