Follow-through and goals

Add voluntary accountability to a quit-smoking plan

HerWay can structure a commitment the person quitting has freely accepted. It does not treat nicotine dependence, monitor behavior, or replace a clinician or evidence-based quit service.

Product boundary

A Creator can propose. A Doer can accept, counter, or decline. No agreement means no active commitment.

Recognize the pattern

Support has to belong to the person making the change

A partner may want to help and still be unsure what kind of accountability is welcome. Repeated questioning can create secrecy, shame, or conflict even when it starts from concern.

The Doer's accept, counter, and decline options matter here. The person making the change needs a real choice about the commitment and how completion is confirmed.

Where it breaks down

Where partner accountability needs firm boundaries

Health-related behavior needs consent, privacy, and professional support when appropriate.

01

Accountability becomes treatment

A relationship tool cannot diagnose dependence or replace clinical care.

02

Checking becomes surveillance

The product should not be framed as a way to catch or monitor a partner.

03

A lapse becomes punishment

Shame and coercion are outside the safe use of a voluntary commitment.

How HerWay works here

The proposal stays separate from the agreement

The Creator starts the request. The Doer's response decides whether that request moves forward, changes, or stops.

1

Creator proposes

A request, not an active rule

Complete your chosen smoke-free check-in by 9 PM today.
2

Doer reviews

Three meaningful choices

3

Counter example

The Doer changes proposed terms

I want a weekly check-in rather than a daily one.

Optional explanation: Daily reporting makes me feel monitored.

Mutually agreed

Only matching final terms become active

One voluntary check-in each Sunday at 7 PM

VerificationHonor
The Creator reviews a counter. This page does not invent later product states. The commitment shown above represents terms both partners have accepted.

Example commitments

Specific enough to review before accepting

These are examples, not assignments. Every real proposal still needs the Doer's response and matching final terms.

Personal check-inHonor

Complete the agreed self-check-in Sunday evening.

Support actionPhoto Proof

Book the chosen quit-support appointment by Friday.

Plan reviewHonor

Review the voluntary support plan together on Sunday.

Optional consequences stay optional

Do not use a financial consequence to shame, threaten, or financially control a partner. Money is optional, and a health-related commitment may be better kept consequence-free. The Doer can decline any proposed term.

Optional + explicit + mutually agreed

HerWay can help when

  • An adult who already wants to quit and asks for a specific accountability structure.
  • A couple that can discuss lapses without shame or punishment.
  • A small support action alongside appropriate professional resources.

HerWay is not for

  • Medical treatment, diagnosis, withdrawal management, or crisis support.
  • Covert monitoring, forced abstinence, punishment, or financial control.
  • A situation where either partner feels unsafe declining the proposal.

FAQ

Practical questions before you start

Does HerWay help treat nicotine dependence?

No. HerWay is not treatment, medical advice, or a quit-smoking service. It can only structure a voluntary commitment alongside suitable professional support.

Can a partner require a smoke-free commitment?

The Creator can propose one, but the Doer can accept, counter, or decline. No proposal becomes active without agreement on the same terms.

Does HerWay verify whether someone smoked?

No technological behavior verification is claimed. Honor lets the Doer self-confirm. Photo Proof may suit a related visible action, such as booking support, but it does not prove smoking behavior.

Do we have to add money to a commitment?

No. A financial consequence is optional. If a couple includes one, it must be explicit and accepted by both partners as part of the final terms. HerWay does not require money for an agreement.

Can we switch the Creator and Doer roles?

There is no instant role switch while a partnership is active. To reverse roles, partners disconnect, existing tasks are paused, select or change roles, and reconnect under the new setup.

Use accountability only when it is freely chosen

Keep the commitment small, explicit, and separate from medical care or partner monitoring.
